UVI Student Winners of the Historic Self-Determination and Constitutional Development Poetry and Essay Contest
The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is pleased to announce the cash prize winners of the Historic Self-Determination and Constitutional Development Poetry and Essay Contest, hosted by the Social Science Department spearheaded by UVI Political Science and History Professor Dr. Malik Sekou. In the Poetry Competition, the finalists are as follows:
- First Place: Shugga D. Rosenbloom
- Second Place: Leyonna Ravariere
- Third Place: Ki’ana Tonge
In the Essay Competition, the finalists are:

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants of this prestigious contest. Special recognition goes to Shugga Deborah Rosenbloom, a senior majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Communication, Theater, and Criminal Justice, and a minor in Fine Arts. Shugga divides her time between the St. Thomas campus and France.
Despite the challenges, Shugga’s profound love and compassion for the United States Virgin Islands fueled her success. Her essay, which highlights pivotal points for inclusion in the territorial constitution, reflects her deep commitment to the region. She hopes that her contributions will have a lasting impact, allowing her to proudly tell future generations of her role in shaping the constitution.
