Tuscaloosa, Alabama, February 28, 2024 – The University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Lady Buccaneer basketball team closed out its 2023-2024 season with a 95-47 loss to the Lady Bulldogs of Tougaloo College in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) 2024 Hope Credit Union Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship at Birthright Alumni Hall in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Wednesday night.
The loss in the first round of this single-elimination tournament abruptly ended the season for the Lady Buccaneers.
Graduate guard Brea Patterson added another double-digit performance to her season total as she has now scored in double digits in 11 contests this year.
Patterson recorded 12 points, two assists, two rebounds and two steals in what would be her last time suiting up for the Lady Buccaneers. The 5-6 guard from Mesa, Arizona went the distance, playing all 40 minutes in her final collegiate game.
Freshman guard Ashukamayah Phillips led the Lady Bucs offensively as she scored 15 points. Phillips joined
Patterson as the only other Lady Buccaneer in double digits. For the Lady Bulldogs, Shawanda Gray scored 20 points to lead the way.
The Lady Buccaneers finished the season with an overall record of 3-18 and a 3-13 conference record in their first
year in the GCAC.
The Lady Bucs are still to be commended for coming a long way. They are still winners. Congrat Lady Buc!
