Welcome 2024 UVI Community

by Shuggah Rosenbloom

The University of the Virgin Islands is excited to welcome back its students, staff, and faculty for the new year 2024. We are moving forward with viral tenacity after a challenging 2023 due to the staggering COVID-19 pandemic and other losses and setbacks. Putting those things behind us, UVI is ready to resume academic and extracurricular activities with enhanced safety measures and online options. UVI 2.0 digital Newspaper is opening its doors of welcome to writers and photographers to our 2024 team of contributors.

UVI President Dr. David Hall said that the university is committed to providing a high-quality education and a vibrant campus life for its community. “We are grateful for the resilience and dedication of our students, staff, and faculty who have overcome many obstacles and adapted to the changing circumstances. We are looking forward to a productive and rewarding year ahead,” he said. UVI has implemented a comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and response plan, which includes mandatory vaccination or testing for all students, staff, and faculty, as well as mask-wearing, social distancing, and sanitizing protocols on campus.

UVI also offers online and hybrid courses for students who prefer to learn remotely or have health concerns. In addition to its academic programs, UVI also has a variety of events and activities planned for the spring semester, such as the annual Afternoon on the Green, the UVI Research Day, the UVI Hackathon, the UVI Music Festival, and the UVI Commencement Ceremony. UVI encourages its students to participate in clubs, sports, community service, and leadership opportunities. UVI is proud to be the only historically black college and university (HBCU) in the Caribbean and one of the top HBCUs in the nation.

UVI offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in various fields, such as business, education, nursing, science, engineering, social sciences, humanities, and more. UVI also has an intense research and innovation agenda, with centers of excellence in marine and environmental studies, entrepreneurship, energy, health disparities, and cultural preservation. UVI invites prospective students, alums, and supporters to visit its website, www.uvi.edu, to learn more about its programs, admissions, scholarships, events, and news.

UVI also invites its community to follow its social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube for updates and highlights.

UVI National Association of Black Journalists and the UVI Voice 2.0 Digital Newspaper wish everyone a happy and healthy 2024. Hope to see you soon in photographs, news articles, and in-person on beautiful St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses and the St. Martin campus.  Dr. Sharon Honore, Communication Advisor
