Traveling on a budget is a big process that we, as students in college, need to learn and practice. Questions you need to ask yourselves before traveling are; ‘How long do I plan to stay?’ ‘what’s my spending budget?’ ‘What hotel services are available?’ ‘How do I plan to get around?’ But the main question you want to ask yourself is, ‘how am I getting to my destination?’

UVI Voice 2.0 spoke with fellow student, Quianna Christian, who had excellent advice and gave suggestions for all our questions.

What makes her an expert on students traveling on a shoestring budget? Well, Quianna, a 26-yr old graduated UVI student has lived a fascinating life and traveled to more than 4 continents, 24 cities, and 8 islands. Most of her trips cost under $300.

SecretTravel.com is a website for college students on a budget. They provide information on airlines and hotels for cheap deals, providing links to third party website where you would be able to purchase your ticket. They are also available in the app store for both android and apple products. Once you have downloaded the app it has the same concept of other social media platforms. You follow channels/locations that interest you and they provide you a list of deals that you can purchase.

Domestic flights, international flights, and even the study abroad program/national student exchange program here at UVI, offer opportunities for students to travel the world, learn about other cultures and experience personal and professional growth. It’s important to understand college is not just a time for academics, it’s a time to live. Experience new things. Create memories with friends that will last a lifetime.

Now, if you’re not big on traveling alone, the internet has many sites with advice for group traveling, where you and a couple of friends can travel together as a group for an affordable price. Thanksgiving break and Christmas break are perfect times to de-stress and travel.

Use your time wisely. Go on a little trip to relax your mind.
