(STX, USVI. September 19, 2015). Former UVI students who visit the dining area of the St. Croix campus will get a pleasant surprise. The BUCs Dining Pavilion and Snack Bar/Cafe have undergone a spectacular makeover.

The students’ influence is not just evident, it’s celebrated in the newly painted walls, ceiling, and floors, which are a welcome change. The menus, with their mouth-watering choices, and the Snack-Bar/Cafe, with its delicious alternatives to home-style cooking, are a testament to their impact. Meals are now prepared on new appliances and properly stored, heated, and refrigerated, all thanks to the students’ feedback and pressure. The changes, whether from the social climate, student pressure, or a new administration, are appreciated and welcome.
Michael Bell, a recent graduate and newly hired Director of Student Life on the AAS campus, agrees that ‘the renovation is really cool.” He admits that it is great to see students “actively engaging with each other outside of the classroom. “The Dining Pavilion offers students (both residential and commuters) opportunities to gather in an informal, casual environment while they eat, drink, and enjoy the experience of college life,” he says.

The new and improved look may also be attributed to a new food service crew, with broad, bright smiles and heartfelt greetings of ‘Good morning/afternoon/evening’ that seem very genuine. The local residents, and independent workers are hired from around the territory. They blend easily with loud, often boisterous youth who are half their age, creating a welcoming and respectful atmosphere.
In return, students often adjust their carefree, youthful actions and language in deference to their elders. The campus atmosphere is not just respectful, it’s fun-filled and infectious, making every visit an exciting experience.

The new look of UVI’s dining facilities is a great reflection of our campus and community. Whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in the Pavilion, or for a snack or a break at the cafe, come and experience the tasty food, incredible ambiance, and great vibes. It’s a great look for UVI, and an excellent match for our community.
